Please read and get familiar with the rules of the Red Deer Curling Centre. If you need clarification or would like to register a complaint please email us here.

General Rules

These regulations apply generally to all curlers using our facility; but specifically to our week-night curling leagues. Most leagues also have their own rules These regulations have been established by the Directors of the Centre and their interpretation of these regulations is conclusive. The Directors of the Centre may waive or vary any or all of these regulations in application to a specific case.

  • Teams are to abide by the rules of curling as sanctioned by the CCA and SACA and with these regulations. The four rock free guard is in effect. All games are EIGHT ends except when the buzzer rule takes precedence.
  • Use of the upstairs lounge is restricted to participating curlers and their guests. MINORS MUST BE UNDER CLOSE SUPERVISION OF A PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN.
  • The Executive requests the cooperation of all curlers in upholding a high standard of housekeeping and cleanliness throughout the Centre.
  • All curling gear and articles of clothing are to be stored within the locker room area; or, taken unto the ice when curling. Equipment found in the foyer will be moved to the Broom room.
  • This is a non-smoking facility under Red Deer City Bylaw. Alcohol consumption is only permitted in the upstairs lounge.
  • In fairness to our caterer, only food purchased within the Centre may be consumed within the Centre. We also request that you clear your table putting your dishes and utensils in the bus-bin provided for that purpose.

Members Ice

Players in the draw may book available ice at no cost for practice or for games. Please check with the Office for ice availability as free ice is scarce and is reserved or rented on a first come, first served basis.

Complaint Procedure

Complaints concerning the Centre, ice, stones or the staff should be directed in writing to the manager, or to a Director. Please do not confront the employees.

Evening League Rules

These regulations apply generally to all curlers using our facility; but specifically to our week-night curling leagues. Most leagues also have their own rules These regulations have been established by the Directors of the Centre and their interpretation of these regulations is conclusive. Notwithstanding anything set forth herein, the Directors of the Centre may waive or vary any or all of these regulations in application to a specific case.

A Team shall consist of at least four players, each of whom has registered and been accepted by the Centre for play in the draw; and, each of whom has fulfilled the annual dues requirements set from time to time. A Spare is a player who has registered and been accepted by the Centre as a player on the Spare list, and who has fulfilled the dues requirements.

Our leagues are constituted as either MEN (all male players), LADIES (all female players); MIXED (Two male and two female, in alternating positions) or OPEN (any combination of male and female players). Teams are permitted to register up to two junior age players between the ages of 16 and 19 inclusive (as of the start of the season). The Junior curling committee may also make recommendation to the Board of Directors for up to four Junior Teams to play in the draw.

Sheduled Games/Cancellations

A Team unable to play a scheduled game must so notify the opposing Team and the Centre before 9:00 p.m. of the day prior to the scheduled match. Teams are encouraged to reschedule a postponed game, but if this is not done, then the Team first postponing shall be deemed to have lost to the opposing Team. A Team not notifying their opposition prior to the time indicated above, shall be deemed to have defaulted. All disputes shall be referred to the Draw Committee in writing.

Postponed games may be played on available ice mutually agreeable to the Teams involved and the Centre. Rescheduled matches must be completed before the conclusion of the current go-round. Be aware however, that there is very little ice and time to play re-scheduled games.

Early draw games are to commence at 7:00 PM and late draws, at 9:15 PM; unless delayed by ice preparation. Please be aware that some time is required to clean ice between draws; and, that Teams should always play without delay. See also - Buzzer Rule.

Default of Game

In addition to improper notification of a game, a game shall be defaulted by any Team which is not ready or eligible for play 25 minutes after the scheduled time of commencement. Where play commences within this time limit, the Team not at fault shall be awarded one point and one end for each ten full minutes of delay and shall retain choice of last stone.
