Season Preview Date: (Tuesday, October 7, 2008) SEASON PREVIEW 2008-09
Just days away from the start of another season of Mixed league curling at the RDCC excitement is starting to grow as teams prepare their final rosters for opening night.
Unlike the NHL, the RDCC didn’t fly any teams to Europe to take part in games on the weekend. Instead, teams were encouraged to enjoy Thanksgiving weekend with their families, eating lots of turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing. The effects of turkey tryptophan should wear off in time for league play to commence Monday, October 20th. If not, fans should expect to see some sluggish play to start this year’s campaign. Tryptophan aside, fans can expect to see sluggish play to start. The majority of teams this year haven’t thrown a rock (down a sheet of ice) since March.
A few players may have thrown baseballs, hit golf balls, or thrown horsheshoes during the summer but the majority of players come into the season well rested from weekend camping trips, trips to the lake, sitting around the campfire, or simply enjoying the great outdoors.
The winds of Hurricane Ike have blown through the league as a few changes are on the horizon. Team Molson has traded in their red for the blue of Labatt, and will now be drinking Labatt product, wearing Labatt team uniforms and throwing only blue rocks (other teams take note, please). Also of note are changes to the sheets at the Curling Club. Fresh ice awaits, along with new sponsor logos both on the ice and on the walls. It’s time to trade in your golf clubs and running shoes for your broom and curling shoes…Curling season is back!
